Cashing Your Loan
Cashing Your Alberta Student Loan Agreement
If you are eligible for an Alberta Student Loan, you will receive:
- an Alberta Student Loan Agreement. Your Alberta Student Loan is issued directly from the Government of Alberta and processed through EDULINX, Alberta's student loan service provider.
- an information sheet with complete details on how to cash:
- a list of participating Canada Post outlets in Alberta that will accept your Alberta Student Loan

Important: EDULINX will have representatives on some major campuses to process your 2009-2010 Alberta Student Loan. The schedule will be posted here for the Winter 2010 term.
You should keep track of the amounts you borrow each year. If you want to learn more about the student loan process, go to the new and improved Entrance Counselling session on the EDULINX website.
Important process for Alberta Student Loan agreements that may apply to you (this process does not apply to your Canada Student Loan certificate)
If you cashed an Alberta Student Loan Agreement since August 1, 2006, you may be eligible to have your future Alberta Student Loan funding automatically paid without receiving or signing another Alberta Student Loan Agreement.
EDULINX will:
- automatically deposit funds directly into your bank account, or
- automatically send you a cheque if your banking information is not provided
How will I know if this process applies to me?
The automatic payment only applies to you if your educational institution has electronically confirmed your registration directly with Students Finance and your initial Alberta Student Loan Agreement has been cashed. Inquire about a previously submitted application.
How will I know when I get my money?
There are three ways to find out when your loan money is paid:
- The "Recent Disbursement" page at edulinx.ca. This page shows you when and how much loan money was sent to you and/or your school.
- A letter from EDULINX, sent each time you are paid loan money (automatically direct deposited into your bank account or by cheque).
- The Notice of Assessment you received from Students Finance after you applied for funding. It shows you when your loan amounts will be paid.
Important: Your educational institution may request your tuition fees be paid directly to them from your loan disbursement amount. This amount is indicated in the tuition portion on the Application Inquiry. You can also find out the amount that has been paid to the school at EDULINX. If you disagree with the tuition amount paid to your educational institution, contact your educational institution to negotiate directly.
Cashing Your Canada Student Loan Certificate
If you are eligible for a Canada Student Loan, you will receive:
- a Certificate of Eligibility and Canada Student Loan Agreement. Your Canada Student Loan is issued directly from the Government of Canada and processed through the National Student Loans Service Centre. If you do not receive your Canada Student Loan certificate approximately two weeks before the disbursement date shown on your Notice of Assessment, contact the Student Funding Contact Centre.
- an information sheet with complete details on how to cash:
- a list of participating Canada Post outlets in Alberta that will accept your Canada Student Loan.
If you are a full-time student with an existing Canada Student Loan but have not yet negotiated a new Canada Student Loan for the current school year, contact the National Student Loans Service Centre to find out about your confirmation of enrolment.
What If I Don't Use the Loan Agreement and/or Certificate?
You may find that you don't use, need or cash the Agreement and/or Certificate. For example, you may decide not to attend school or you no longer need a loan. You must return the unused Agreement and/or Certificate for cancellation, along with a detailed explanation as to why you no longer need the loan, to:
