Information You Need to Know
Application Effective Date
The 2008-2009 Online Application is available for learners who are starting studies August 1, 2008 or later. If you are an Alberta resident and are attending full-time post-secondary studies, you may be eligible to apply online for financial assistance.
Definition of Alberta Resident
Generally, to be considered an Alberta resident, you:
- must have lived in Alberta for the past 12 consecutive months prior to commencing studies
- were not a full-time post-secondary or upgrading student during those same 12 months
Important: If you are a Canadian citizen and Alberta is the only province in which you have lived, but you do not meet the above requirements, you may still be eligible to receive Canada Student Loans only.

Important Notes

- If you are considering a student loan and you want to know how it works, check out the Entrance Counselling session on the EDULINX website before you apply.
- There may be some post-secondary institutions that have not yet completely entered all of their session dates and program costs into the Online Application. If you are unable to find your institution and/or program information, contact your educational institution. You may have to submit a paper application.
- You must be a Canadian citizen, a Permanent Resident (Landed Immigrant), or a Protected Person (including Convention Refugee) to apply for student funding.
- If you start the application and cannot complete it, it is automatically saved as a work-in-progress application once you exit the system. Your work-in-progress application is saved for 7 days after which it will be deleted.
