Connecting Learning and Work

Navigating one’s way through a changing world, for young people and adults alike, is a challenging task. Considering how life in Alberta has changed over the past decade—more and different types of jobs are available; how you choose an occupation and how you find a job has changed; education and training options have multiplied; employers are adapting to a changing economic environment; and new life/work attitudes and values have emerged. With these changes, the value of career development has appreciated.

Connecting Learning and Work will facilitate and enable stronger linkages between education, work and further study, and help individuals make informed career choices based on self-knowledge, understanding of the world around them, and identification and pursuit of individual passions and life goals.

“Career Development is our gyroscope. It is our navigational instrument for measuring and maintaining orientation and stability. It is part of our internal guidance system that assists us in managing transitions and sustaining balance in learning, working, and living regardless of the pressures or forces that act upon us.”
